Barb, you were correct; the Case Studies were the best part of the course! I not only enjoyed watching all of the presentations, but I liked thinking about all of the students who were helped as a result of these case studies. You could truly see how teaching practices are changing and the positive impact that this will have on students. The application of both high-teach and not so high-tech solutions to help students' individual needs was inspiring. Seeing actual results is so satisfying and a testament to what we are trying to do as educators.
This course has been so amazing because it was so practical. Although rooted in sound research and theory, it was not weighed down by it like many other graduate courses. I was able to take away so many practical solutions that I can use with my students and try to pass along to help others. I feel better prepared for the future of education. I would hate to be an educator who feels left in the dust because I do not understand the new technologies that can help my students.
I only have one criticism of this course. I did not enjoy this blog. I, like my students, hate having my thoughts out in cyberspace for anyone to read. I feel like my digital footprint is getting so large that I am no longer in control of it. I was apprehensive about publishing my posts at all. I feel like I couldn't truly reflect because I was always conscious of other people reading my ideas. Creepy.
Instead, I wish we could have written grant applications so that we could get the chance to try and get some of the technology that we discussed in class. Writing grant applications is truly an art, but I think that if we used some of our new-found knowledge we may stand a chance of getting somewhere.
Barb, thank you so much for this course. You made a topic that is sometimes scary for people--technology--very easy to understand and even EXCITING! I am leaving your course with knowledge and skills that I otherwise may never have gained. You have helped me stay energized at a time in my career when I was afraid that my new role as Resource Teacher would chew me up and spit me out.

Lee,
ReplyDeleteI posted three links to grant applications on my last blog post. Check them out to see if they will be useful.
